Yusuff Ali of Lulu Group Clears Loan for Kerala Woman Evicted from Home
Lulu Group chairman M.A. Yusuff Ali has extended a helping hand to a woman named Sandhya from Kerala's Ernakulam district, who was evicted from her house due to an unpaid loan. The billionaire businessman not only cleared her outstanding loan of Rs 8 lakh but also provided an additional Rs 10 lakh for a fixed deposit, ensuring her financial stability.
Sandhya’s ordeal began in 2019 when she and her husband borrowed Rs 4 lakh from Manappuram Finance, a non-banking financial company (NBFC) based in Kerala, to build a house in North Paravur. However, tragedy struck in 2021 when her husband abandoned the family, leaving Sandhya and their children in financial distress. With her meager earnings of Rs 9,000 a month, Sandhya struggled to repay the loan, which had grown to nearly Rs 8 lakh due to accumulating interest.
For two years, Sandhya was unable to clear the debt. One day, upon returning from work, she discovered that the finance company had changed the locks on her home, barring her and her children from entering or collecting their belongings. Sandhya’s heartbreaking situation quickly gained media attention, which reached Yusuff Ali.
Moved by her plight, Yusuff Ali instructed the Lulu Group to clear Sandhya's loan immediately. As a result, Sandhya was able to reclaim her home. Additionally, he gifted her Rs 10 lakh to open a fixed deposit, providing a financial cushion for her future.
